Blogger Ashley Brooke shares the latest seven books from her reading list! |

A Book Update

Back in January, I wrote this post all about the last 15 books I’d read, and it still stands to be one of the most viewed blog posts this year. I think it’s funny because we are all in the same boat of “what do I read next?!”. Isn’t it the worst when you finally finish a book and feel nervous about starting a new one? Will it be as good as my last read? Will it be as bad as my last read? Is this book even worth my time?

Honestly, I think we all have the same feelings. I can’t be the only one, and the blog analytics show just that. Ha! Anyway, I thought it would be fun to give you a little update on what I’ve been reading lately. But, you have to promise not to judge. To be be fair, they all haven’t been winners… also, I’m not exactly what you’d call a serious book kind of girl.

I’ve tried “The Girl on the Train”, and I had nightmares for weeks! So, if you are looking for something along those lines, this isn’t your reading list. But, my friend Grace has a killer (<– you see what I did there?!) book list. If I’m ever able to make it through a thriller book like a real grown up, I’d consult her for my next read!

Anyway, here a few books I’ve finished recently…

My Not So Perfect Life: A Novel

This was such a fun and easy read! I love Sophie Kinsella’s books, and this one was fresh and very applicable to today’s Instagram perfect world. I laughed out loud multiple times while reading. It’s the perfect beach read. For some reason, I just really love when a book’s story line is based in England… weird, but true!

Love Lives Here

One of my very favorite books of all time is “Love Does” by Bob Goff. If you haven’t read, it you need to. “Love Lives Here” is written by Bob’s wife, Maria. This book was truly a collection of stories about her life with lessons she’s learned along the way. The book itself was like a warm hug. I enjoyed it so very much and would re-read it again and again! Highly recommend!

Big Little Lies

Okay, I tried. I reeeeeaaaaalllly wanted to read this book, you know to be trendy and everything. But then the HBO show came on, I got the flu, and I ended up watching the entire season in like 2 days. I was 14 chapters in, and I quit since I knew everything already. Epic fail. But wow is Reese Whitherspoon good as Madeline!

The Bookshop on The Corner

This book was like a magical Scottish Hallmark movie, and I loved it. This book was also like a hug, and it also made me what to go to Scotland. I would definitely read it again! Also, if the producers at Hallmark don’t make a movie out of it, I’d be shocked.

So…. this is where it gets weird. This book was in the recommended section with people who purchased “The Bookshop on the Corner”. So I thought, “why wouldn’t I want to read another magical Hallmark movie?”. And then I started it. I’m not exactly sure what kept me going except for this whole plot line with a puffin (that’s right a bird) that I found weirdly amusing. Every time I picked up this book, I thought to myself “this book is so odd”. But, then again, I finished it. So, I don’t even know what to tell you besides, “that was weird”.

Bread & Wine

This book was recommended to me by a friend of mine, and I LOVED it. I’ve even made a few of the recipes out of the book already. It was just one of those books that spoke to my heart. There is nothing more I love than sitting around the table with my favorite people with candles burning, glasses clinking, and laughter roaring. This book was a love note to just that, and it was wonderful. I cannot recommend it enough!

All Summer Long : A Novel

I’m about 1/2 way through this book, and so far I’m really enjoying it. The book is set in both Manhattan and Charleston, two of my favorite places, so it’s a fun read! I’ll have to let you know what I think once I finish it.

Now that I’ve spilled all my secrets about what I’ve been reading, it’s your turn! Have you read any of these? What did you think? And most of all, tell me ALL of your recommendations! I’m ready for a new book or two!

  1. I have Love Lives Here on my list. I really enjoyed Love Does, so I imagine Maria’s book is a gem.
I just finished Present Over Perfect. After reading that, I feel I need to reevaluate somethings in my life.
    Thanks for this list.
    Be blessed 🙂

    • Hi Jennifer! You’ll have to let me know what you think about Love Lives Here! I thought it was so good! 🙂

  2. I read My Not So Perfect Life, but then again I’ve read ALL her books, before Confessions of A Shopaholic was even a movie idea. I’ve been wanting to read Maria Goff’s book but have not yet. I tried to read the Big Little Lies Book after I saw the movie & I couldn’t do it! I highly recommend books by Kevin Kwan, a series of three. Start with Crazy Rich Asians, then China Rich Girlfriend and the newest in the series Rich People Problems, I’ve only had it for a few days and I’m already almost half way done. ❤️❤️❤️

  3. Anything by Chris Fabry….June Bug, The Mountain Between Us, The Promise of Jesse Hill..and more. I have plowed thru every single book he has written. Incredible writer!! Totally engaging plot and NO OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE. PS….I, too, loved Of Bread & Wine

  4. I was just about to get Bookshop on the Corner, so I’m glad to know you liked it! I just read “Attachments” by Rainbow Rowell and loved it! A great light, Summer read that was written well; I flew through it!
