Our Best Trip Yet!

Last week we took a quick trip to Charleston, South Carolina, to see if we could knock off some of our CHS bucket list items we had yet to experience over the last few years! We have family in Charleston so we go 1-2x a year and know our way around the city, but for this trip we wanted to try some “new” things!

Ryan and I are creatures of habit. When we like a restaurant, hotel, bar, etc. we typically return every time we are in that particular city. So when we planned this trip we decided to stay away from our regular spots and really get to know the city. It ended up being our best trip yet!

Charleston: Sunday

Check-in at The Dewberry

On the way there we stopped in Savannah for a quick lunch. We ate at The Fitzroy which is a new spot run by the owners of Collins Quarter. After our delicious lunch we pressed on towards Charleston and arrived by late afternoon. After checking in we settled in for a cocktail at the hotel’s bar.

We had been hearing so many people rave about this new(ish) hotel called The Dewberry. So for this trip we decided to see what the hype was all about!

We actually ended up booking our stay using Ebates, which proved to AMAZING (they give tons of cash back) and super easy. Not only were we able to pick our exact room on Ebates Hotels, but we also made money! Not even joking. After we booked our trip I got an e-mail saying that we were going to receive over $50 in cash back, which is kind of awesome.

To be honest, I had never used Ebates and was pleasantly surprised by the results. My bff Besty uses Ebates all the time so as soon as I booked the trip I called her up to tell her how proud she should be of me, ha! And of course, she was!

Back to The Dewberry. It did not disappoint! The whole luxury-midcentury vibe they have going on is spectacular. It was hard leaving the hotel during the day because we loved it so much. And actually, our first day we didn’t leave because of the thunderstorms.

As soon as we got to town the storm clouds began rolling in and by the time we were done with our cocktails at the (beautiful) lobby bar, it was storming so hard that the wind was throwing the outdoor furniture around. After deciding that staying in was the wisest option, we enjoyed a delicious dinner at Henrietta’s, The Dewberry’s lovely in-house dining spot.

Tip: Dewberry Lobby Bar ““ Order the hummus”¦ just trust me on this one!

And at Henrietta’s make sure you try the pickled shrimp!

Breakfast at The Harbinger Cafe - Ebates Travel - www.ashleybrookedesigns.com

Healthy breakfast at Harbinger’s

On Monday morning we woke up bright and early with a to-do list a mile long. But our first stop of the day was at The Harbinger Café! My sister-in-laws who live in Charleston are constantly raving about Harbinger, so clearly I needed to see what that was all about.

Tip: Get the granola bowl”¦ it’s to die for!

Next on our to-do list was a little exploring “South of Broad Street”.  Admittedly we’ve been to Rainbow Row before, but we haven’t really explored the surrounding streets, so that is exactly what we did!

Shopping: Hampden Clothing

Before lunch we popped into my friend Stacy’s store, Hampden Clothing, for a little retail therapy. Stacy and I met at The Southern C this past February and have stayed in touch ever since. I was thrilled at the opportunity to see her store in real life!

Stacy has such great taste and it’s obvious the second you walk into her store. I knew it would be incredible, I just didn’t know HOW incredible. I had such a wonderful time browsing and chatting with the team at Hampden. I ended up walking out with a few choice goodies that were just too good to resist!

Tip: If you are looking for an amazing piece for a special event, Hampden is so worth the trip! Plus, Stacy and her team can take you from 0 to goddess status in about 60 seconds!

Healthy Eating at Basic Kitchen

For lunch we stopped at Basic Kitchen, which just so happened to be right around the corner from Hampden Clothing.

I’m always looking for healthy places for us to eat on our travels and came across Basic Kitchen after a little Google searching! Both Ryan and I ordered cold pressed juice and the rainbow bowls for lunch and neither disappointed. If you’re craving something healthy amidst all the Southern/fried food in Charleston, Basic Kitchen is your spot!

Our Sailing Adventure!

After a short recovery back at The Dewberry, it was time to head back out for the next adventure, SAILING!

That evening we had booked a Sunset Sail with a local charter group. Honestly, neither Ryan nor I had been sailing before so we had no idea what to expect. As soon as we got there and saw the stunning sail boat and were met by the incredibly friendly crew, we knew we were in for a good time. Two of Ryan’s brothers and their wives met us at the marina and we made it a family affair!

This ended up being the highlight of the trip. I’m talking, sunsets, dolphins, and stunning views. None of us have been able to stop talking about it. It was SUCH an amazing experience; I would HIGHLY recommend doing this if you ever visit Charleston”¦

Tip: Bring your camera, you won’t want to miss the sunset! We booked with Charleston Sailing Charters and they were awesome. The fee includes up to 6 people and you can bring as much outside food and drink as you want.

After our sailing trip we hopped on over to Darling Oyster Bar for oysters and ros锦 it just seemed like the right thing to do!

Charleston: Tuesday

Brunch at Miller’s All Day

On Tuesday morning we ventured out for brunch at Miller’s All Day. We’d heard such great things about this place and we couldn’t wait to see what all the buzz was about. We ended up falling in love with the place, the food, and atmosphere. It’s a definite must-stop the next time you are in town!

Tip: Get the open-faced scramble, you won’t regret it (also, it’s dairy free if you remove the cheese!).

Then we stopped by the Terrace Oaks Antique Mall for a little vintage shopping. If you love antiques, it’s a must-do in Charleston. We could have spent hours in there”¦ it was a real live treasure trove!

Tip: They sweet ladies will haggle with you”¦ so don’t be afraid to ask for their “best price” it worked for us!

P.S. THANK YOU to everyone who DM’d me on Instagram with Antiquing locations. Terrace Oaks was the most popular mention by far! We also “stumbled” into David Skinner Antiques and Period Lighting ““ Not a place to go for knickknacks, but gorgeous nonetheless!

For dinner, that night headed to Ryan’s brother’s house and got cozy with homemade pizza and a bit of family time! Such a fun night with our favorite people!

Charleston: Wednesday

Exploring Historical Charleston

On Wednesday morning we really wanted to do some more exploring before we packed up and drove home to Florida.

And that’s just what we did. We roamed around the historic district, admiring the cobblestone streets and grand Revolution-Era homes. The history in Charleston is unbelievable and truly breathtaking. We had such a great time strolling and even met one of the owners of the homes, the highlight of our morning! He told us that the home had been in his family for 109 years and that it was built in the 1700’s. You hear stories like that and it doesn’t even seem possible.

We finally checked our clocks and realized our time was up. We quickly got back to our room, packed up, then said goodbye to The Dewberry!

Found: The Best Acai Bowl in Charleston!

But we couldn’t leave town without one last stop so I rerouted us to Huriyali for Acai bowls for the road!

All Good things must come to an end

This was a unique Charleston visit for us, full of new experiences. It was full, but relaxed and will hopefully be the model for all our trips to come! I can’t wait to go back and experience a few of our new favorite places once again. And one thing is for sure, the next trip I book will be through Ebates!
