Name and Occupation: Emily Ayer, Creative Director at Southern Weddings

Is your desk more OCD organized or artistically organized chaos?:
My desk is pretty spare, actually – just a pretty lamp, some wooden letterpress blocks that spell out XOX, and a green glass pen cup.  Sometimes, when I’m in the thick of working on a project, my desk will get cluttered with mail, stationery and linen samples, or scribbled-on sheets from my favorite notepad, but I try to keep it pretty clean.  Also, I have a bookshelf right next to my desk where I keep many of my supplies, including books, photos, push pins and paperclips, so that’s my more busy and colorful area.

What’s your go to pen or pencil (We know you have a favorite!)?: I love Le Pens for handwriting notes.  They come in the prettiest colors, and have such a fine tip!

What are you listening to at your desk these days? If you prefer to work in silence, is there a song or album that’s gets your juices flowing when you’re stuck in a rut?: I do generally work in silence, because a lot of my day is spent crafting emails or blog posts, and I find it’s hard to write when there are other words in my head!  But when I need to get energized or get in a groove, I actually like listening to country music!  It helps me feel like more of a true Southerner 🙂  Sugarland, The Band Perry, and Keith Urban are three of my favorites.

Are there snacks or treats within arms reach of your desk? What are they?: I almost always have a bucket of animal crackers on my desk, which makes nibbling easy.  I am infamous in the SW office for forgetting to stop for lunch, so this helps tide me over!

What 3 Things on your desk keep you on track and inspired?: The fun, oversized orange notepad from Swiss Cottage Designs, which I use for taking notes during meetings and calls; two photos – one of my family, and one of my favorite place in the world – that remind me why I do what I do; and the four back issues of Southern Weddings, which I’m constantly referring to and being inspired by!
