Blogger Ashley Brooke shares her picnic date must haves for National Picnic Month! |

What’s on My List!

We are picnic people around here! When I heard it was National Picnic Month, I figured it was high time I shared a few of my favorite tricks and tips. We do most of our picnics on a whim, so I like to have a few things always on hand just in case it’s a really nice night out.

As I mentioned in this post, we like to fill up our bike baskets and head to our favorite neighborhood spot to watch the sunset. Every now and again, I’ll pack a real dinner like sandwiches or pasta salad, but I prefer the “snack dinner”! It’s just more fun, and let’s be real, it’s easy.

Here’s a list of my favorite picnic things:

Champagne – It’s great because it feels fancy, but doesn’t need a wine or bottle opener! One last thing to pack!

Cheese – I like to bring a sharp cheese and a fruity cheese. Both are good with crackers, a baguette, or by themselves. Plus, who doesn’t like cheese?

Crackers or Bread – Sometimes I grab crackers, and sometimes it’s bread…whatever I have on hand. I try to always have a good seeded cracker in the pantry for just this type of occasion!

Fruit Compote or Jam – Cheese + bread + fruit compote = HEAVEN

Nuts – Almonds, walnuts, pecans, pistachios… all nuts I keep stocked in my pantry!

Fruit – I try and keep “easy” fruit on hand for picnics like: grapes, apples, apricots, etc. Things you don’t necessarily have to cut.

Dark Chocolate – I like to keep a fancy chocolate bar on hand for occasions just like this! It’s an easy dessert, and it feels extra special, especially with champagne and strawberries!

Most of these things are normal, everyday groceries. So don’t over-think it the next time you want to do a picnic dinner with your main squeeze! Add the special things to your grocery list so you’re ready to throw things into a basket and GO! I pinky promise you’ll be glad you did.

  1. National Picnic Month? How fun is that! Hopefully the FL storms will stay away this weekend long enough to enjoy a picnic at the park 🙂
