The Bodyguard

August’s Book is Here!

Happy August… and I can’t believe it’s here already! It’s been forever since I’ve gone “back to school,” but for me August always signals that shift from summer to fall, even if it will feel like summer here in Florida until at least late October!

This month we have SUCH a great book for you: The Bodyguard by Katherine Center. You may have spied this book when we shared titles on our radar for summer. Well, I am happy to report that its inclusion was well earned. It’s not your usual rom-com trope, and I loved that it felt fresh and different from anything I’ve read in awhile. I think you’re going to love it!

Executive protection agent Hannah Brooks has gotten her latest assignment and it is not exactly what she bargained for. Her client? Enter Jack Stapleton, smoking hot movie star with a corgi-loving stalker never far behind. To make matters more complicated, Hannah, who looks nothing like a bodyguard, has to protect Jack at his family home without tipping off his ailing mother that he’s in a position to need protection. So, Jack asks Hannah to pose as his girlfriend and that’s when things get interesting, to say the least.

About the author

BookPage calls Katherine Center “the reigning queen of comfort reads.” She’s the New York Times bestselling author of eight books, including How to Walk Away, Things You Save in a Fire, and What You Wish For. The movie adaptation of her novel The Lost Husband (starring Josh Duhamel) hit #1 on Netflix, and her novel Happiness for Beginners is in production as a Netflix original movie (starring Ellie Kemper and Luke Grimes).

Katherine writes laugh-and-cry books about how life knocks us down—and how we get back up. She’s been compared to Jane Austen and Nora Ephron, and the Dallas Morning News calls her stories, “satisfying in the most soul-nourishing way.” Katherine lives in her hometown of Houston, Texas, with her husband, two kids, and their fluffy-but-fierce dog.

From the start of chapter two I was getting major Miss Congeniality vibes. From then on, I knew this book had to be an Ashley Brooke book club pick!
