Breville Barista Touch Espresso Machine Review

The best coffee you’ll have at home, promise…

A few months ago, Ryan and I started seriously looking for a new espresso maker. To be brutally honest, we are *those* coffee people. As much as I’d like to say that we aren’t, we are! It is what it is, and I’ve totally given up trying to deny it! We absolutely love going out to our local coffee shops, but even more than that, we love being able to make cafe-quality coffee in our own kitchen.

So we told ourselves that we could buy a fancy espresso machine when we finished our kitchen renovation, and in January we started doing the research. After talking to quite a few friends and reading review after review, we settled on Breville. For us, it wasn’t just the aesthetic (although that definitely played a part, their machines really are beautiful!), but it was the craftsmanship.

Breville has been around since 1935, and their commitment to creating machines that are superior in performance, but also honor the craft of espresso, was just unlike any of the other machines we were considering. So for us, Breville came out on top!

Breville Barista Touch Espresso Machine Features

After going back and forth for a few days, we landed on the Barista Touch Espresso Machine. It had everything we wanted: built-in grinder, automatic milk texturing, and a pre-programmed cafe drink menu. What really sold us is that a lot of the difficult parts of the espresso drink-making process are automatic on this machine. There are still a few things that are a bit manual, which make the whole “espresso making” feel more like an experience. It really is like having a cafe in your home!

Breville Barista Touch Espresso Settings

Okay, let me warn you, it takes about a week to familiarize yourself with the espresso machine, so just know that! It’s definitely easy to use, but there is a learning curve. But the things we LOVE about the Barista Touch: you are able to pick your grind size, the intuitive touch screen makes choosing drinks easy, and the steaming wand is not only automatic, but you are able to choose your heat setting and how much foam or micro-foam you want. It’s honestly kind of absurd how many options you have!

Plus, I love being able to customize our drinks. Both Ryan and have our specific settings we like, which is kind of fun, and I love that this machine saves them. Each morning, I just tap my icon and in about a minute, I’m sipping my latte!

My Personal SettingGrind: 15 seconds / Grid Size: 7 / Brew: 24 seconds / Milk: 160 degrees, Level 2 on froth.

Also, we are currently loving Buddy Brew Espresso, Califa Farms Barista Blend Almond Milk, and these latte mugs!

I will say that I really do think you can make latte art with this machine, but I have yet to master it. Ryan keeps telling me that he’s been watching YouTube tutorials, but I have yet to see a swan or a heart in my latte… so I’ll have to keep you updated on that one!

Breville Barista Touch Espresso Machine Cleaning & Maintenance Tips

The cleaning and maintenance of this machine was half the reason why we ended up going with the Barista Touch. The cleaning? It’s almost nonexistent. The steam wand CLEANS ITSELF. This was one of the main reasons why I held off getting an espresso machine for so long… I didn’t want the mess of cleaning the wand. But y’all, it actually cleans itself, which is just absolutely magical. All you have to do is wipe it off when you are done, and if you’ve had a steam wand before in your life then you know, YOU KNOW, this is special!

I also clean out the grates about every week, and it’s really so easy. Also, the water tank holds a lot and heats up so quickly… seriously the ease of maintenance is worth this model alone.

Is The Breville Barista Touch Espresso Machine Worth It?

Y-E-S. YES. Yes. I give a solid 5-stars. This machine is definitely an investment, but if you think about it, a $4 cup of coffee every day (times that by two in our house!) begins to add up, so it just made sense in the long run for us. Especially if you are “coffee people” like we are!

  1. Hi Ashley. Thanks for the review. Could you please let us know your settings for other drinks you might make such as americanos?

    • Having a lot of stress trying to dial in a double shot espresso latte using Stumptown Hair Bender whole beans.

  2. We are in the market for a new coffee maker/espresso machine. I’ve been eying the Breville or the Saeco Xelsis. We drink coffee daily but would drink espresso and lattes if we had a machine. From what I’ve gathered you can’t make coffee with the Breville correct?

  3. Love this review, I’ve been eyeing this for when my Keurig gives up! Do you put any flavor in your lattes or just almond milk?

  4. I have a Breville as well. When it quit working during the pandemic all I had to do was drop it off at the UPS store. They boxed it up and shipped it out for repair. Since Breville was unable to fix the problem they sent me a brand new machine of similar model. Now that is customer service!

  5. Ashley, how lovely for a slow Saturday morning. Do you still love your pour over coffee machine as well? In the market for a new coffee maker.
