A Season for Second Chances

December’s book is here!

Happy December! I can’t believe we are here already–the last month (and last book) of 2021. I am so excited to share A Season for Second Chances by Jenny Bayliss with you. (You may remember we read Bayliss’s book Twelve Dates of Christmas together last year.) As the title implies this is a story of a protagonist looking for a second act and a second chance at love. I fell in love with Annie and I think you will too!

Quick Summary

After raising her children and building a thriving restaurant with her husband Max, Annie Sharpe’s marriage comes to a sudden end. In an attempt to shake things up, she takes a job as a caretaker for a seaside home in Willow Bay. When she arrives, she falls in love with the house and the quaint town she is now calling home. But not everything is as perfect as it seems when she realizes that her residence puts her at odds with the town’s people and their ideas around whether or not to save the house she is taking care of. Chief among them, is the nephew of the home’s owner. As Christmas approaches things become more and more uncertain, including Annie’s future in Willow Bay.

About The Author

Jenny Bayliss lives in a small seaside town in the UK with her husband, their children having left home for big adventures. After having been a professional cake-baker for many years, she went back to college at age thirty-nine to study part-time for a degree in Creative and Professional Writing. Bayliss likes long walks, baking days, stationery, and shamelessly wearing party dresses to the supermarket. She is also the author of The Twelve Dates of Christmas and A Season for Second Chances.

Betsy and I were chatting about this book a few weeks ago and she mentioned that it felt like the movie “It’s Complicated” (my favorite.) and once she mentioned it, truly it was ALL I could think about!! This cozy read will have you rooting for Annie from page 1. Trust me. 😉

Take me to Willow Bay! Like last month’s selection, the setting in this book really does it for me. I could picture so much of this little seaside village, all cozied up in the winter and it made me wish I was bundled up, walking her streets.

This is the best winter read that will have you feeling all the cozy vibes. The characters are so fun to tag along with and I loved the small town feel!

  1. Super cutesy fun read! I’ve been to Scotland during that time of year, so it struck home with me. Crazy sea, cozy cabin and hot drinks. Yes please.

  2. I can’t believe this is the last book of the year! I have read and participated in every monthly book selection and discussion this year. (Still finishing up the November read) I’m very thankful for the ABBC – the lighthearted happy books you select have helped me to get through some very tough times this year. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!
