Taco night is ALWAYS the best night! Whether it’s in the dead of winter or a Summer soiree, there just isn’t anything quite as yummy. So, it’s only logical that part three in our Dinner Party series would be Mexican themed!
There are many reasons why taco night is my usual go-to for dinner parties, but the fact that it’s one of the easiest meals to prepare is high on that list. I ALWAYS have the ingredients in my fridge, freezer, and pantry on hand and ready for an impromptu Mexican night any day of the week. Tacos are a “hands-on” food, which means there’s a built-in activity for everyone. And bonus, your guests do most of the work by building their own tacos! any night that involves margaritas is always a night that everyone remembers.
If all that wasn’t enough already, any night that involves margaritas is always a night that everyone remembers. So now that we are all on the same page about Mexican night and you are already calling your neighbors to set up dinner this week, let’s get prepped and ready!
Here’s the deal, I like fancy things, I really do. But when it comes to table settings I don’t like fussy. You know what I’m talking about — where the table setting seems unusable and you’re afraid of knocking something off the table… I like room – room to eat, room to grab that last bit of guac, and room to set my elbows on the table laugh until my stomach hurts! So when I set a table I try to keep that in mind, practical and pretty, functional and fancy… you get the picture!
I find that fun plates, real napkins, and small bud vases with colorful flowers always do the trick.
About these plates!
I recently found these plates and napkins from Caitlin Wilson that have become my new party go-to. The bright blue patterned plates make a big statement without too much fuss, which I love! And I’ve got to be honest with you, they’ve been a total hit at every party I’ve thrown recently! So keep in mind when you are serving something simple like tacos… think about how you can add a little character to the table with your plates and napkins.
I could do a Mexican dinner party with my eyes closed at this point. It feels like second nature to me.
For my taco night I serve:
- Street Tacos
- Baked Plantains
- Chips & Salsa
- Mexican Black Beans
All of these things are super quick and/or can be made in the crockpot. To make it easy, you can download a printable recipe card below.
Now that you’ve invited your bffs over for dinner, been to the grocery store, it’s time to get dressed! I love a good themed outfit, but I try to tone it down so I don’t overwhelm everyone with my enthusiasm, ha! Regardless I do like to at least feel like I’m dressed for the right party!
This dress from ASOS is colorful, fun, and flattering. Plus it’s easy for me to move in around the kitchen and table. For under $50, I’m not sure it gets any better than this! Also, who doesn’t love a wrap dress?! let’s be serious now.
Okay, so that’s it! Hopefully by now I have fully convinced you that this is one easy dinner party to throw and something that is 100% doable for beginners to chefs! And that if you haven’t already invited your friends over this week for a little margarita night that it’s time to get to it!
