Love & Gelato

Spoiler Alert!

We’re getting ready to dive in to the details of the book. Haven’t read it yet? Get acquainted with our latest selection here.

Who is ready to go back in time and attend high school in Italy? Anybody? Just me? Gosh I love this book so much! It has such an adventurous spirit. I feel like I’m in Florence when I’m reading and I loved watching the different relationships in Lina’s life develop over the Summer. We screened a lot of books for April, looking for something to really escape in to and lift everyone’s mood. Love & Gelato fit the bill perfectly and I hope you loved it as much as I did! There is a sequel to this book, just as an FYI and a third book in this series is due out in November!

Discussion Questions!

1. If you received the journal that Lina did, would you read it all at once or piece meal like she did?

2. Sometimes the family you choose can be just as important as the one you’re born in to. Do you have a “Howard” in your life? Is there someone you’ve adopted as family?

3. Lina and her friend Addie work hard to stay in touch over the Summer. How are you staying in touch with your people right now?

  1. 1. Was there a makeover moment you liked best? I loved when Sam got the haircut and beard shaved. I can just imagine how cute he was. I probably would have just stared at him endlessly!!

    2. Annie has a hard time letting go of her phone during her beach day with Dr. Page. Has this book or the quarantine changed your phone habits? Are there things that are making you put your phone down or pick it up more frequently?
No big changes for me because when I am out with people my phone is away and on vibrate. I want to be with the people I am with. I also don’t like it when I am with people who are always looking at their phone. Why are they with me or the
    group?!?
    3. We loved the supporting characters in this book: Miranda, Brian, Charlie, Martin. Did you have a favorite?
I liked Miranda. It was amazing how well she knew Annie, almost better than Annie knew herself. She was always there for Annie. A great friend.

  2. 1. Was there a makeover moment you liked best?
Her dad’s birthday party, particularly when he told off her inconsiderate family members.

    2. Annie has a hard time letting go of her phone during her beach day with Dr. Page. Has this book or the quarantine changed your phone habits? Are there things that are making you put your phone down or pick it up more frequently?
I don’t think it’s changed my phone habits. I still have the same bad habits I had before, but I don’t think I’m on it more than usual.

    3. We loved the supporting characters in this book: Miranda, Brian, Charlie, Martin. Did you have a favorite?
I liked Miranda and Martin as a pair. Would love to see a follow-up book with them as the stars.

  3. 1. Was there a makeover moment you liked best?

The makeover moment that I liked the best was also the dance class!

    2. Annie has a hard time letting go of her phone during her beach day with Dr. Page. Has this book or the quarantine changed your phone habits? Are there things that are making you put your phone down or pick it up more frequently?

I think that both quarantine and this book have definitely changed my phone habits. Its been so easy to pick up my phone and get lost in all of the bad news or comparing my experience to others. In the past few weeks, I’ve had to become really intentional about turning things off when things become too much. But on the positive side, my phone is how I’m staying in touch with friends and family.

    3. We loved the supporting characters in this book: Miranda, Brian, Charlie, Martin. Did you have a favorite?
I really liked Miranda because she was so supportive.

  4. 1. Was there a makeover moment you liked best?
*I agree about the dance class~ I was laughing out loud at that scene! I think it was so unexpected to learn that Sam was talented in such a different way.

    2. Annie has a hard time letting go of her phone during her beach day with Dr. Page. Has this book or the quarantine changed your phone habits? Are there things that are making you put your phone down or pick it up more frequently?
*I have definitely been using my phone more during quarantine, with no purpose or intention. I loved the beach scene, because it put into perspective that we can miss special moments if we are constantly looking down at what’s happening on the screen and planning for the next moment.

    3. We loved the supporting characters in this book: Miranda, Brian, Charlie, Martin. Did you have a favorite?
    *Brian! He was so funny.

  5. 1. Was there a makeover moment you liked best?

Probably the salsa dancing lesson, and how he then went to Annie’s dad’s birthday with her and told off her nasty family members. It showed that he wasn’t what you expected, and how much he cared about Annie.

    2. Annie has a hard time letting go of her phone during her beach day with Dr. Page. Has this book or the quarantine changed your phone habits? Are there things that are making you put your phone down or pick it up more frequently?

Like Annie, I often have a hard time putting my phone down. Now that the weather is improving, something I am going to try to do is have phone free evenings or part of evenings. My husband and I had a fire in our back yard over the weekend and I purposely didn’t bring my phone outside so I wouldn’t be tempted to look at it, and it was actually really nice.

    3. We loved the supporting characters in this book: Miranda, Brian, Charlie, Martin. Did you have a favorite?

I think Miranda and Brian are amazing friends, so I loved the scenes of Annie working with them and them having her back as friends. I also really liked the interns Nat and Zadie and how helpful they were in the office and with growing Sam’s account.

  6. 1. My favorite makeover moment was the dance class! I think it was the first glimpse that there was more to Dr. Page than met the eye and the first time Annie felt something for him.

    2. I feel like I’m on my phone more but want to be on it less. When I start feeling overwhelmed I know it’s time to put it away. Having a good book or project going helps divert my attention!

    3. I loved Charlie and Martin–they reminded me of Matthew McConaughey’s co-workers and friends in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days! Anybody else?!

  7. So excited to discuss with y’all!

    1. Was there a makeover moment you liked best?

I loved when they went to the beach… I felt like it was a makeover moment for the both of them. So sweet.

    2. Annie has a hard time letting go of her phone during her beach day with Dr. Page. Has this book or the quarantine changed your phone habits? Are there things that are making you put your phone down or pick it up more frequently?

Oh my gosh yes, I need to be six feet away from my phone! I feel like I am checking it as a habit, not because I actually need to. But I’m loving the slowdown this season has brought.

    3. We loved the supporting characters in this book: Miranda, Brian, Charlie, Martin. Did you have a favorite?

Brian had me laughing out loud!!!
