The Off Limits Rule: Discussion Questions

can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
The Off Limits Rule Book

1.

Who would you cast as Lucy, Cooper, and Drew in your dream film adaptation?

2.

Relationships can be complicated. Do you think dating someone who is intertwined in your family or is an existing friend is a deal breaker?

3.

It seems like most of the books we pick up these days have multiple narrators. Did you enjoy reading this book from Cooper and Lucy’s perspective or would you have preferred one narrator? Maybe someone other than Lucy and Cooper?

    – Lucy gave me “emily in Paris” vibes while listening to the book – Lily Collins would be a great fit.
    – I see Drew as Chris Pratt – kind of the big teddy bear, caring type.
    – Cooper should be Chris Evans – masculine and has that “family man” persona.

    2. Not at all – as long as expectations are aligned. No one wants to cause extra tension!

    3. I really like dual perspectives for reading and listening to books – especially for books that involve relationship development. The dual narration allows you to see inside the minds of both characters much better. I do not like it when there are more than 2 narrators in a book. I LOVED the dual naration for the audiobook version of The Off Limits Rule. The voices for the narrators were excellent!

  2. 1. Who would you cast as Lucy, Cooper, and Drew in your dream film adaptation?

    Lucy: Sara Rue!!!
Cooper: Adrian Grenier / Glen Powell
Drew: Chris Evans / Chris Pratt

Not necessarily a deal breaker, but definitely something to discuss/consider without rushing in!

I loved the multiple points of perspective! It would have been nice to have Drew’s thoughts mixed in at times too! I absolutely can’t wait to read the sequel about Drew!

Who would you cast as Lucy, Cooper, and Drew in your dream film adaptation?

Michelle!!! I totally agree about a younger Matthew McConaughey & Jennifer Garner!!

I meannnnn… it totally depends! I think it would definitely be hard, I’d be so worried about everyones feelings that it might cloud my own!

I love a two narrator story, obviously since I picked the book, ha! But still. Love all of the different perspectives!!

Who would you cast as Lucy, Cooper, and Drew in your dream film adaptation?

Lucy: Jennifer Garner, Cooper: Ryan Reynolds, Drew: not sure

I think it depends on the situation, but not for the most part! But in this book, I really feel Drew overreacted haha. IRL this would probably not be such a dealbreaker.

I liked it from their perspectives although it would have been interesting to glean some more insight from Drew’s perspective with a few short sections or chapters of his POV sprinkled in.

  5. 1. Who would you cast as Lucy, Cooper, and Drew in your dream film adaptation?
Hmmm, this is not my forte, but Kate Hudson and a handsome guy 😉

    2. Relationships can be complicated. Do you think dating someone who is intertwined in your family or is an existing friend is a deal breaker?
I think that it makes for a trickier transition into dating (where are the lines? how do we go from friends to romantic) and there is much more pressure (everyone is watching. what if this doesn’t work out?).
In the long tun though I actually think the history makes for a stronger, easier, more honest relationship for all.

    3. It seems like most of the books we pick up these days have multiple narrators. Did you enjoy reading this book from Cooper and Lucy’s perspective or would you have preferred one narrator? Maybe someone other than Lucy and Cooper?
I liked it but would have preferred a different narrator.

  6. 1. Who would you cast as Lucy, Cooper, and Drew in your dream film adaptation?
Oh this is a hard one…I think the fact I couldn’t even come up with an actress in her 20s really shows my age-ha! In a dream world where age was irrelevant, I saw Drew as a Chris Evans type, Cooper as a Matthew McConaughey and Lucy as a Jennifer Garner.

    2. Relationships can be complicated. Do you think dating someone who is intertwined in your family or is an existing friend is a deal breaker? Not really-I think that would be situational.

    3. It seems like most of the books we pick up these days have multiple narrators. Did you enjoy reading this book from Cooper and Lucy’s perspective or would you have preferred one narrator? Maybe someone other than Lucy and Cooper?
I really like the multiple perspectives and the fact it makes the reader an omniscient observer.

    • 1. Lily Collins for Lucy.
      Zac Efron as Drew.
      Scott Eastwood as Cooper.
These fit the ages better. But I totally agree that in a dream world Matthew McConaughey & Jennifer Garner would be fabulous!!

      2. It’s something I have avoided. Didn’t want to risk losing the friendship. Relationships are hard enough. About halfway through Plot Twist right now & hoping Livi & Liam end up together!!

      3. I love the alternating narrative. Seeing both sides gives the story more depth & also helps me find a good place to call it a night.
