I love to entertain, it’s one of my very favorite things in life! There is nothing quite like a full house of your favorite people, good food, and cold champagne. But over the years of throwing countless parties, bridal and baby showers, I have learned the key to success are the shoes! Because let’s be real, the work of the hostess really starts early in the morning. 

I’ve made the mistake of running around in shoes all day that aren’t comfortable, and then switching into heels once the party starts. At some point, I always sit down and never want to get back up. It’s a recipe for a disaster every time!

Recently, I came across an AMAZING brand called Birdies. They make chic “slippers” that are not only super comfortable, but are also stylish and totally wearable! To be completely honest, I have 100% fallen in love with the two pairs I have and wear them just about every day. They are my new go-to home/entertaining shoe! So when Birdies asked if I would take over their Instagram for the day as I prepped for a holiday party, I couldn’t say “YES!” fast enough!

So, let’s get this party started… 

List making, it’s the very first thing I do the day of the event! I have to write out one big massive list to make sure I have everything I need, because without a doubt, I will forget something at the grocery store. It happens every single time. It might seem silly, but I even write down the little steps, like “light candles” and “turn on mood music”. The smallest details are always the most important because I often forget when I am in the midst of prepping!

After I’m organized, it’s into the kitchen I go! I usually have some sort of audio book or podcast that I’m listening to which helps the time pass as I chop, whip, blend, and bake!

I don’t have many shoes that allow me to stand on hard kitchen tile for hours at a time, but my Birdies have yet to let me down yet! I even wore them the ENTIRE day on Thanksgiving! I’m telling you, these shoes are magic!

After I have finished with my food prep, I start to set the table and organize my snacks and treats. In my opinion, the presentation is just as important as the taste. If we are having a cozy living room cocktail party, I make sure to stack things on books, light candles, and add fresh flowers to create an inviting environment. Setting up for the party is always my favorite part! 

Once my set up is complete I slip into my “party outfit” and pop the champagne, because it’s go time! 

When guests arrive, it’s time to sit down and enjoy the company. Even though I often get up to refill glasses, clear plates, and shuffle things around in the kitchen, I try my best to spend time with my favorite people! The great thing about Birdies is I can do all of that in style AND in slippers! My entertaining game has officially been changed!
