The Window Shades In Our New Home

We love the treatments we chose…

Along with questions about the rugs we have in the new house, a close second is always our window shades! And I have to say, again, with good reason… window treatments are hard to figure out. There are so many style options and price points that it can become overwhelming very quickly. So I thought I’d pull together what we use and few other options (for all budgets!) for you in case you are on a similar what-do-we-do-with-our-windows journey.

After lots of research we landed on Everhem’s custom roman shades. Custom shades are fairly expensive, but after putting in two custom shades in our previous home (we used The Shade Store) we knew we wanted to make room in the budget for them in our new home. They made SUCH a difference for us, so for the bedrooms we went with Everhem.

Honestly I was a bit weary of the process, but Everhem made it genuinely so easy. We met with one of their in-house designers to go over our options and talk through different ideas via Zoom. I’m so glad we did, because we ended up changing quite a few things after talking with her and they really made a difference!

Here’s the breakdown of what we ordered:

Laurens’ Room

  • Inside mount, blackout, cordless, flat: Khaki woven woods

Juliet’s Room

  • Inside mount, blackout, cordless, pleated: Petal stripe

Primary Bedroom

  • Inside mount, pleated, chain, privacy: Sand Essentials

I’m so happy with what we chose! Once the shades came in Ryan put them up himself fairly quickly. All and all, it was a wonderful experience and if you are interested in going the custom shade route I’d highly recommend.

We ended up putting plantation shutters on the front windows and I hope to do a really fun printed custom cafe-curtain in the laundry room and something floral in my office, but for now I am thrilled with what we have.

Truly can’t say enough great things about our Everhem shades!

  1. I love how detailed your process was for choosing window shades! It’s so helpful to see the options you considered, and Everhem’s custom shades sound like a great choice for adding both style and function to your home. The mix of blackout and privacy features you chose is perfect for creating a cozy, practical space.

  2. Who did you use for your plantation shutters? I am considering them for my row house, but overwhelmed with all of the options.
