Four Easy Steps!

I was sold on our house the moment I laid eyes on the front door and porch! Red door? Check! Front Porch? Check! I knew before I walked inside that this had to be it. Our house is small, but the charm is big and during the holidays our little front porch really gets it’s time to shine. I count down the days from September until late October when the temperatures cool down enough for me to actually put a few plants outside. So when the pumpkins and mums start rolling out in the first of October, I dive in!

Another really fun thing about our house, mostly neighborhood, is that we are holiday people. There isn’t a special event that our neighborhood doesn’t decorate for and Fall/Halloween everyone goes all out. Just about every other house right now is covered in pumpkins, fake spider webs, and glow in the dark mummies… like a mini little Stars Hallow and I love it. It’s the start of the Holiday season and people are really pulling out their A-game.

Halloween night is hands down my favorite in our neighborhood. Our little streets are PACKED with the cutest little ballerinas, lions, and firemen you’ve ever seen. We all sit on our front porches, drink pumpkin beer, and hand out candy… it’s the best. I try and whip our front porch into shape well before Halloween so we are ready for all the festivities and our mums are in full bloom by the time the 31st rolls around.

So today I thought it would be fun to show you how I normally style our front porch for the Fall in four easy-peasy steps! Whether you have a front porch, a stoop, or a landing, these four easy steps will help you get you ready for Fall in no time! Also, just remember, use your home’s assets… for me, it’s the steps and front door, but for you, it may be a mantle inside. Just because this post is “front door decor” doesn’t mean it can’t be translated to another space, so keep that in mind and work with what you’ve got!

1. Mums the Word!

The mums! Let’s be real here for like 4 seconds, mums are the absolute BEST. They are massive, relatively inexpensive and have TONS of color. I absolutely love mums. I like to grab a bunch of them in a few different sizes and colors because I’m never quite sure what I’ll need. Also, I like for the space to feel really full.

Pro Tip: Google “wholesale nurseries” in your area, they are usually cheaper (like 1/2 the price) and better quality! Sometimes they will ask you for a business license but most of the time they won’t! Just have cash on hand.

2. Bring in the Pumpkins!

Next up, layer in the pumpkins. Funny thing about these pumpkins, I found them all at Publix for $4.75! They look like they are fancy-smancy pumpkin patch pumpkins, but they are not. They are plain old grocery store pumpkins and I love them. I knew I wanted a handful of them with similar shapes and after having no luck at a pumpkin patch I gave up and went to Publix. Although, I’ve got to tell you… these are the prettiest pumpkins I’ve ever seen!

Tip: Find pumpkins that have character, it will add interest! Not all of them have to be perfectly shaped!

3. Light the Candles!

My favorite part, the candles! Adding in the candles will really take your front porch decor to the next level. I only keep them out when we are having guests over or for Halloween, but they really do add a little romantic touch to the whole vibe! I found these pillar candles and hurricane glasses three years ago at a craft store and I have been using them ever since! Nothing beats a little candlelight.

Tip: Order candles in bulk from Amazon and share them with your neighbors! Cheaper and a lot more fun!

4. Finishing Touches!

Last but not least, mini pumpkins & gourds! They seem so small and not necessary until you add them in and see the difference they make! As you know I’m all about layers and texture and these do just that. Also, they are just plain cute.

Tip: Another grocery store buy! Publix was having them buy 3 for $5 last week!

  1. I absolutely LOVE the whole look of this. I am actually having a deck builder install a front porch on our new home in the coming weeks so I’ve just been browsing sights like yours looking for inspiration. You have a great eye for aesthetics 🙂

  2. I am looking to paint my front door the color of yours. I am not a red door “kind of a girl,” however, that shade is striking and just makes a statement. Do you know the color of your front door?

Thank you for starting my day each and every morning with your wonderful blogs.

    • Carla!! You are so sweet, thank you so much for your kind comment. I actually have no idea what the color of our front door is, but I will definitely look into it!

      Lots of love, Ashley Brooke

P.S. you made my whole day!!
