How I Hot Roll My Shoulder Length Hair

Give me all the bounce…

Over the past few months I kept finding myself looking at hot rollers. I’m not exactly sure where my obsession with the classic hot tool came from, but regardless, here we are! I ordered them one night on a whim thinking the worst that would happen is that I’d box them back up and return them or that I’d look like an extra from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel… both seemed like good enough reasons to give it a try!

I love a new beauty product or tool, but for some reason these hot rollers intimidated me. My first attempt was BAD. I felt awkward rolling my hair, I fumbled the entire time, and honestly I was ready to give up. And then I took the rollers out and it looked TERRIBLE! Like so bad I had to just put it up in a ponytail and move on with my life.

I was getting ready to box them back up but thought I’d give it one more go and see if I could redeem myself. I watched a few YouTube videos and went for it. One of the pieces of advice I read about hot rollers is that if you are new, give yourself seven tries. So I felt validated by my epic failure and felt that I at least owed it to you to try again. And also to tell you not to give up!

My second attempt made me I felt like a movie star! I seriously was thinking how is this my hair?!

Guys, I don’t know what it is about the hot roller look but I’m LIVING for it. The bounce, the vintage glam, all of it. Seriously, it’s like a fabulous blow out, but better. So all of this to say, order the rollers. Give yourself seven days to figure it out. Be okay with the awkwardness and fumbling… you’ll get it and be so glad you stuck it out!

Below I’m breaking down how I hot roll my hair, and most importantly the products I use to prep and style!

  1. Hi Ashley,

Your link for the T3 hot rollers is incorrect. It keeps linking to the Bumble and Bumble dry texture spray.

Thanks for the video, I’m a product of the 80’s and I LOVE hot rollers.
