How to style a chambray shirt four ways

Chambray shirts are a year-round staple piece I L-O-V-E, especially during those transitional months in between seasons. As summer starts to come to an end, I wanted to share a few ways you can incorporate small fall touches to your outfits in the months to come!

layer under a sweater

A collared shirt layered underneath a sweater is one of those classic combinations that never goes out of style. In all honesty, I wear sweaters year-round since I like to crank down the A/C, but this outfit is the perfect option for chilly beach nights. I’m way into chambray styled with navy and white stripes, so I’d wear this sailor sweater, white shorts, sneakers, and a leather tote bag. Where’s the sailboat because I’m ready to ROLL with this look!

tie around a white dress

When it’s too hot outside for even a light jacket, a white flowy dress with sandals and a chambray shirt tied around your waist is *the way* to go! It’s an easy way to incorporate a fall touch without adding too many layers, and if you do happen to get chilly, you can always wear the chambray shirt unbuttoned as a jacket and tie the corners in a knot. A life and outfit hack I have totally mastered. HA!

tie over a slip dress

A simple slip dress is so chic with a pair of heels for dinner. When I want a slightly more casual outfit, I’ll add a chambray shirt over my dress and wear it as a cropped cardigan! Leave the chambray shirt unbuttoned, pull the front corners forward and tie them in a knot, so the shirt fits snug around your waist. Tuck any extra fabric in the back underneath, and voíla…it’s that simple!

With a cardigan and jeans

Lastly, for a casual Friday work-to-weekend outfit, I’d style a chambray shirt with medium or dark wash jeans, tan flats, and a cardigan. I knew I had to share this cardigan as soon as I saw it—the detail is gorgeous, and I love the cozy bouclé texture!
