My Favorite Way To Start The Day

Our daily go-to coffee routine!

I’m asked about our coffee maker and set-up a handful of times a day (at least!), so I thought it would be fun to officially break it down. (And you can read all about my full morning routine here!) Our morning coffee making is actually not as intense as it may seem, but we *are* coffee people, so I guess it might seem a little extra! That said, I think we’ve got it down, so I’m happy to help explain what works for us on the daily.

Let’s get into it, shall we?

Our Coffee Maker & Espresso Machine

We have two machines: a coffee maker (the Moccamaster) and an espresso machine (the Breville Barista Touch). I did a full, in-depth review here on our Breville Barista Touch espresso machine, so make that a must-read if you are in the market for a *good* espresso maker. We absolutely LOVE ours, definitley 5+ stars!

And honestly, being able to make coffee-shop-quality lattes, espresso, and cappuccinos at home has been such a treat. I truly cannot say enough good things about it!

So, since I’ve already done a deep dive on the espresso machine, I wanted to focus on the Moccamaster for those of you who are looking for an excellent coffee maker.

Moccamaster Coffee Maker Review

A handful of years ago, Ryan and I were staying at 86 Cannon in Charleston, and each morning we’d head down to their little kitchen for coffee and treats… and then for the rest of the day I would listen to Ryan go on and ON about just how good the coffee was! I mean, honestly, he was obsessed!

By the third day, he was researching their coffee pot, chatting to the owner of the inn on their pros and cons experience, and pricing them out. I knew by the time we were zipping up our suitcases and heading home that we’d also be coming home to a new coffee pot… and I was not wrong!

To his credit, I will say that our Moccamaster makes *the best* drip coffee I’ve ever had. It really is fantastic and I’m not nearly as big of a drip coffee fan as Ryan is, but even I can tell a difference. It’s a quality coffee maker.

From the way the coffee is brewed to the temperature of the hotplate, you are guaranteed a fantastic cup of coffee every single time without fail. Honestly, it’s impressive! Never again will you have burnt, bitter coffee, which is truly something to be thankful for.

If you are looking for a new coffee pot I cannot recommend this one enough. So much so that my sister and her husband bought one (and so did my parents!) after trying it out at our house shortly after it arrived.

We love it *so* much that we now even bring it to the cabin with us on every trip…. so if that doesn’t convince you, I don’t know what will! There’s nothing like a night before a trip, and the group text goes out: “Who’s bringing the Moccamaster?” That alone should really tell you how much we love this machine! It truly is fantastic.

But before I wrap up this post I did want to answer the other questions I get often about these two machines..

Quick Frequently Asked Questions

How do you decide which machine one to use each day?

I love this question! Ryan makes a pot of coffee in the Moccamaster each morning, and then most afternoons we’ll make lattes or cappuccinos with our Breville Barista Touch. But since being pregnant, I will often just have a latte in the morning (they are my favorite!) and skip the afternoon coffee all together. I will say, I’m looking forward to the day when I can have more than my one allotted cup!

What coffee beans do you use?

We have a subscription with East Pole coffee in Atlanta and have a freshly roasted bag of beans delivered weekly. And for espresso, I pick up Buddy Brew (a local roaster) at Publix.

Also, we use a Burr Coffee Grinder for our whole coffee beans and store our beans in this canister.

What milk do you use for your coffee/lattes?

Ryan puts a bit of cream in his coffee and I put in a good helping of unsweetened almond milk. And for our espresso, I use this barista blend almond milk and Ryan uses 2% milk.

And here’s the how-to for my *favorite* latte! And you’ll most likely find me drinking it out of this or this.

Okay, I think that about covers it for my favorite coffee maker! Let me know if you have any questions… happy to answer any more you may have!
