Can we Just Go ahead and Move Already?

Let me just preface this post by saying that it’s honestly such a shame that we have such great friends and family here in Orlando, because if we didn’t already have a giant group of people we love and hate to be far away from we’d move, like yesterday, to Newport.

First off, it’s straight out of Gilmore Girl’s episode. It’s quaint, beautiful, and magical even in the frigid temperatures. The people were lovely, the clam chowder was excellent, and you can’t beat the views that were virtually everywhere (Cliff Walk, Ocean Drive, Millionaire’s Row). It’s one of those places that feels sturdy and good; clearly we fell in love. Although, the entire time we were there people kept telling us that the real magic starts in the Summer and that we needed to book a trip back ASAP.  We would laugh because what they didn’t know is that we were already daydreaming of our next trip. We will 100% go back to Newport, honestly though”¦ how could we not?!

Below are a few photos we took during our very short two days in Newport + at the very end is a short  Guide to Newport.

We poped into KJP’s Newport store and I ended up snagging that “Newport” sweater and hat! Such a fun space, you must pop in if you are near by!

Also, I can’t wrap up this post without mentioning how wonderful he Amtrak ride from NYC to Newport was. I can not recommend it enough. It was incredibly relaxing and beautiful”¦ I’d do it again in a heart beat!

A Condensed Guide to Newport, Rhode Island

This was a super short trip, but here are some of the details on what we did and where we went.

How we got there: By Train! We rode the Amtrak from Penn Station in NYC to Kingston. From there we rented a car. Parking wasn’t easy around Newport and we were told it’s worse in the Summer, but having your own transportation is a must!

Where we stayed:

Gurney’s Newport

Notable places we ate:

The Mooring

Scenic spots we visited:

The Cliff Walk was our absolute favorite! Ocean Drive was a close 2nd. Millionaire’s Row/Mansion Tours deserves an honorable mention. They should all be on your list if you go! We drove up to the Castle Hill Inn because we were told it has the best sunsets. It did not disappoint! The views were stunning. While we didn’t stay long there, it’s on our list to explore more thoroughly on our next trip!

Okay, that’s it for this little photo journal. If you happen to be familiar with Newport, I would LOVE to know what else we should do on our return visit (hopefully this Summer)!

  1. My husband and I love Newport. I completely know how you feel. We would move in a heartbeat if we could take our GA family with us!
If you go back you need to travel a short drive north to Newburyport, MA. It is just as amazing as Newport. One of my students recommend it after I raved about Newport.
I was wondering what type of camera you used on this trip? Your pictures are amazing.

    • Hi Lisa!

Oh good, I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s ready to pick up and move! ha!
We will definitely look into Newburyport, sounds amazing, thank you for the rec.!

Oh, also, we use a Sony AR7II 🙂

Thank you for your sweet note!

    • Hi Angela!

Thank you for your sweet note and YES, you must put it on your list of places to see… it’s amazing! xx

  2. I LOVED Newport in the fall, it was just magical! My cousin goes to University of Rhode Island so the Kingston train station is right near campus. Should you go back, I’d explore that area, Narragansett Beach, and eat at Crazy Burger. It was honestly the best burger I’ve ever had and you can get regular fries mixed with sweet potato. Plus it was on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives!

    Also, these photos are GORG

    • Hi Brianna!

OOOOOHHHHH Thank you so much for all of the tips! I am definitely noting them right now! I can not WAIT to go back! Thanks again for your note, friend! xx

  3. I love Newport! Touring the mansions – particularly the Breakers and Rose Cliff, is quite worth it (though probably only once!). I would definitely recommend going early in the morning, as they can get quite crowded!

    • Abigail! I so wish we could have done that… they were stunning! Next time we go there, I’ll make sure we at least pop in those two! xx
