Pregnancy: My Second Trimester

Catch up on my first trimester here!

I can not believe I’m actually writing my second trimester recap. HOW did that happen?!?! Time is literally F-L-Y-I-N-G by and I need it to sloooow down. I can not *wait* for this sweet baby to arrive, but as I told my mom yesterday… he can just stay right where he is. I’m very happy just feeling him kick around all day and knowing my little buddy is with me wherever I go. Mostly because we don’t have anything ready yet, ha! We are slowly getting there, but we definitely have a ways to go. My mom kindly laughed at me and said “just wait a few weeks, you’ll be changing your tune!” … And I think she’s right, because I’ve had a foot? leg? something wedged in my ribs for the past 3 days! He’s apparently found a spot that is extra cozy and isn’t interested in moving. 😉

Anyway, let’s get into the second trimester, shall we?

Well, first of all, it’s definitely been the most fun! After leaving the fog of the first trimester behind, things started to feel really REAL, and exciting! I’ve had so much energy and felt great, which I am so thankful for, I know that’s a gift. And honestly it’s just been such a sweet season of getting confident with this pregnancy, which again has been such a gift.

Now that I’m cruising through my 3rd trimester I’m holding out hope that I will feel the 2nd trimester magic until his arrival. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking, but hey, let me dream a little! 😉

In the mean time, let’s get into the most frequently asked questions I’ve been getting…

Are you craving anything?

Um, YES. All citrus, but mostly lemon and lime… it’s all I think about! I have literally made so many random recipes that call for large amounts of lemon or lime over the past few weeks it’s comical. Key lime pie?! I’ve made it. Lemon chicken?! yup. Guacamole with extra lime juice?! Of course. Lemon muffins?! Absolutely. Can’t get enough. Also, anything salty… but to be honest, I’m always craving salt, pregnant or not. Ha!

Have you had any unpleasant symptoms?

Oh yes! But they have all been manageable (heartburn, insomnia, random aches and pains, etc.) so I can not complain. But the most hilarious one of all is the consistency and frequency of charlie horses. They wake me up throughout the night and it’s how I wake up most mornings. I spend a good portion of my day rubbing out cramps in my legs. Growing up I would get them all the time when I was dancing competitively, so they feel weirdly nostalgic to be honest.

How have you managed the symptoms?

You mean besides Tums?! Ha! I take a lot of warm (pregnancy safe) epsom salt baths and that has made a MASSIVE difference.

Any fun symptoms?

YES. I love love love feeling him kick all day. It’s been the sweetest and just so reassuring. Also, the bump has been so much fun. I really popped around at the end of January and I’ve loved it. I was hopeful that I might enjoy pregnancy, but I wasn’t prepared to enjoy it this much.

2nd Trimester Favorite Memory?

I think one of my favorite memories has to be the 27 week ultrasound, where we saw him pull his hand up to his little face, and start sucking his thumb. Both Ryan, the ultrasound tech, and I were like “Oh my gosh, OH MY GOSH!!”. Even the ultrasound tech was squealing!! Ryan and I just looked at each-other and about cried.

He’s real, it’s real.

I think that about sums up the past few months! It’s been so sweet. And even though I’m sure the good vibes of the 2nd trimester won’t follow me all the way through my third, there is just so much to look forward to in the next few weeks that I can’t see how it wouldn’t!

Ryan and I are doing a mini baby moon this upcoming weekend, and I can not WAIT! Plus I have two baby showers right around the corner which is hard to believe. We have tickets to the ballet and a few other fun events between now and this little one’s birthday, and not to mention much to do in the nursery. Our days and weeks are full, but so very good.

I know I say it a lot, but I just couldn’t be more grateful. I wasn’t sure I would have this opportunity and not a day goes by that the actual miracle of it all is lost on me.
