All About the Red Lips

Red lipsticks are a classic staple in every beauty arsenal, and if you have yet to try a bold red lip, after reading this post, my hope is that you will. Because trust me when I say there is nothing better than wearing a bold red lip. Truly, you will feel unstoppable.

Red Lipsticks Tips and Tricks

Finding The Right Red Lipstick For Your Skintone

When looking for the perfect shade of red, don’t be afraid to try a few different colors to see which undertones work for you! And honestly, there really aren’t any hard and fast rules here, just wear what makes you feel the most confident. But if you are looking for a place to start, hopefully this helps! I will say: I’m extremely fair, with warmer undertones, and I wear all the colors, ha! So, you do YOU.

Red Lipstick for Cool Skin Tones

Red lipsticks with blue undertones are often the perfect shade for skin tones that are on the cooler side! So if this is you, I’d recommend this lipstick in the color “Promotion Day”!

Red Lipsticks for Warm Skin tones

Finding a red lipstick with an orange or warm undertone will make your skin sing! Try this one in the color “Parisian Red“!

Subtle Red Lipsticks, Balms, & Oils

A swipe of red lipstick can instantly elevate your look or act as an accessory to a classic, casual outfit, like a white button down and jeans. Truly, the options are endless here, so don’t just associate a red lip with fancy! It can be all the things. But if you are just trying out the “red lip” look, you may want to try a red tinted lip oil like this one in “Rustic Orange”, or a red tinted lip balm like this one in “Plum Brown”! Both are gateway lipsticks into the real deal like a bold liquid lipstick like this in the color “Forever Dior”!

How to Apply Red Lipstick

So, my number one tip for applying red lipstick is to EXFOLIATE. Try using this exfoliating lip brush and or this lip scrub! I’m telling you, this will make a HUGE difference in not only the way your red lipstick lays, but how long it lasts and how good it looks. If you take one tip away from all of this, let it be that.

Once you’ve exfoliated, use a really great lip balm and rub it all in (this is my favorite and this is my budget friendly favorite!). I don’t like to put a lipstick on top of a lip balm unless it’s really rubbed in; I feel like the lipstick just slides around. Then, line your lips! I’m a huge fan of lip liners; these are so good and really inexpensive, and they make the biggest difference. It’s lip primer for your lipstick! Then, just apply your lipstick!

I always have a small concealer brush nearby, a tiny bit of concealer, and, of course, q-tips handy to clean up the edges of my lips, but I’m telling you, these few steps will really up your red lipstick game and keep your lipstick from bleeding or smudging throughout the day!

I could go on and on about red lipstick, but hopefully these tips and tricks will at least give you a push to try a shade you’ve never worn before or pull out your favorite classic red lipstick you had forgotten about and live a little! 😉
