Mini Weekend Getaway
On Friday afternoon we packed up our weekenders and headed to the West Coast of Florida for a much needed weekend getaway. Last week was heavy with the loss of both our sweet Lucy and my great grandma (she was 103, ALMOST 104!). We were in desperate need of a change of scenery, and this trip couldn’t have come at a better time for us! We vowed to take time to sleep, read, and rest. And absolutely no laptops were allowed!
While we were packing up on Friday we realized that we would be (sort-of) passing by our favorite, and also the place we were married, The Oxford Exchange! So, we decided to really make an adventure from the get go. We stopped in at the OE to pick out new books for our weekend and have a little coffee date. It was magical to say the least. After that, we hopped back in the car and headed straight for the beach!
We’ve been to a few Ritz Carlton properties before, but this one was EXTRA special! Not only was it increadibly beautiful, but the people were EXTRA kind. As soon as we walked in, we knew it was going to be a great weekend. We were not wrong!
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite things to do when we get to a hotel is unpack. There is something so calming about getting organized in a new space. I lined up all of my mini beauty products, placed my toothbrush in a glass, and put my make-up bag front and center. When you are in an all white marble bathroom, it just feels like that’s the right thing to do!
We had dinner that first night at the hotel’s restaurant, Jack Dusty’s, and it was AMAZING! If you go, I’d highly recommend the Siren Cocktail (it has orchids in the ice cubes, and even FORBES agrees!) and the Tuna Poke! The vibe in the restaurant was wonderful, and our server was so sweet! I couldn’t recommend stopping by any more. It was that good!
And on Saturday morning… we started the morning off right, with room service! I love room service so much, I honestly think it is the BEST thing about staying in a hotel. Plus, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! No one does breakfast quite like the Ritz Carlton. HEAVEN.
We spent some time on Saturday afternoon exploring St. Armand’s Circle, which was buzzing with a local art show. It was chilly and drizzling on and off which made it easy for us to pop in and out of shops. And after so MANY recommendations we ate lunch at The Columbian, which was wonderful. It was the best kind of lazy Saturday.
After making a few loops around St. Armands, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. We knew we were going to have “dinner on the beach”, but we weren’t 100% sure what that actually meant. We were definitely up for it! After putting on another layer of clothing, we headed out to the Ritz Carlton beach club for dinner. We were blown away by what they had in store for us!
First off, it had been cloudy and rainy ALL day, so we assumed the chances of us seeing any kind of sunset were slim. Once we walked over to the beach, we realized we were WRONG! The clouds opened up just enough to make for a beautiful sunset, and the staff had set up a priviate dinner on the beach just for the two of us. I had tears in my eyes when I saw the set up…so increadibly kind.
And of course there were tiki torches, a bonfire, and two hot toddies waiting for us…
Dinner, the sunset, and the whole experience couldn’t have been any sweeter! I kept saying, “Pinch me! This is too pretty, and doesn’t feel even a little bit real!” The staff had even made us custom menus, mine said “Mrs. Fancypants” and Ryan’s said “Mr. Handsome” just like our coffee mugs. I’m telling you, no one does service quite like these people. They knocked it out of the park, and gave us an experience we will always remember.
On Sunday afternoon we officially packed up our bags and headed back home! But we didn’t want our little mini vacation to end, so we made quite a few stops on the way. First up was a stop by my good friend Cami’s studio, Camilyn Beth, to visit with her and see all of her STUNNING new designs (I’ll do a post on our visit later!). And then we swung by the Ringling Museum’s Rose Garden, which I am so glad we did. It was in full bloom and oh-so-pretty! And lastly, my sister’s house… she called to tell me that she was making pasta if we wanted to come for dinner, and I’m not sure how you say no to that.
Needless to say this was a weekend for the books!
