Welcome to Miami!
We are officially kicking off our new Summer Road Trip series today, and I am so excited about it I can’t stand it. As a kid, we road tripped everywhere, and it was my very favorite thing ever. We spent the week before the trip picking out our favorite snacks, movies, books, and games for the road, which was half the fun of the trip! They’re all things I still do before each road trip! And, since we have quite a bit of travel planned for this summer, we thought it would be fun to take you along and give you a peek into our trips, where we are staying, how we plan, and our go-to tips for road trip travel. Because let’s be honest, you don’t have to book a flight to go somewhere fancy, you just need to do a little research!
Today, we are starting off this series with our stay at the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne!
After doing a little googling, we decided Miami would be our first trip of the summer. Because honestly, there isn’t a place that screams “SUMMER” more than Miami! Also, Miami is about 4 hours away from us in Orlando, and that felt totally doable, especially for the weekend!
Plus, it had been so long since either of us had been there that it felt like a totally new adventure.
Ritz Carlton, Key Biscayne
As soon as we arrived at the Ritz Carlton in Key Biscayne, we knew it was going to be a good weekend. Even thought is was POURING, everyone inside was so sunny and bright! One of the bellmen called the rain liquid sunshine. I loved his phrase so much, I ended up using it all weekend long! Also let’s be real, it was raining in Orlando, so we didn’t care one single bit. If it was going to rain, we might as well be somewhere new.
We checked in and headed up to our room before exploring. While we were unloading our bags, the bellman told us we had to head down to the bar on the beach for Piña Coladas… we of course couldn’t resist and made a beeline for the beach as fast as we could.
We hadn’t even been at the hotel for more than 10 minutes, and we were shoes off, on the beach, with piña coladas in hand. It was safe to say our trip was off to a magical start!
While we walked on the beach, we toyed around with the idea of getting fancy and heading out. But, we still had a lot of work to do that night, so we opted to stay in. We ended up eating at Cantina on property, which just so happens to be on the beach. We ordered guacamole, fish tacos, and watched the sunset. It was the perfect evening.
The next day, we were up bright and early! We couldn’t sleep, there was too much to see and do, plus it just so happened to be my 30th birthday. Needless to say, I was excited about the day! On Friday on Instagram Stories, I mentioned we were in Miami for work but we were squeezing in a bit of fun while we were there. I had been celebrating my birthday since last Monday so working on my actual birthday wasn’t a big deal at all! But, of course, we did sneak in a bit of celebrating starting with breakfast….
Breakfast is hands down my favorite meal of the day, which makes room service HEAVEN. We ate breakfast with the windows open while we did our morning conference calls and e-mails. Honestly, I could not have asked for a better morning.
After breakfast and a bit of work, we headed down to the spa for a little treat! If you haven’t been to the Ritz Carlton Spa, it’s something you should TOTALLY do. I’d rather have one massage a year there than multiple anywhere else. It’s so much fun and so fancy. Plus, the pretzels are literally the greatest. I’m obsessed with them. I ask for a massage for my birthday every year just so I can eat the pretzels in a robe. It’s the best.
After the spa, we headed out! We had to finish a few work things before we could call it quits for the day, so we ventured out in the rain. After a few hours or so, we headed back to the hotel to freshen up before heading back out for cake! But, as soon as we walked in, I burst into tears when I saw what was in our room!
The sweet staff at the Ritz Carlton had put together the most beautiful mini birthday party I’d ever seen! There was a gorgeous cake, flowers, champagne, and of course a signed card from the entire staff. No one quite does service like the Ritz Carlton! Also, they are like a bunch of little Nancy Drews, this surprise was impressive and totally 100% not expected. It was such a sweet thing to do and a memory I’ll have forever. Also, we no longer needed to head back out for cake because I had my very own!
On Saturday morning, we got up bright and early with high hopes to see a bit of Miami before the rain rolled back in! We were able to get a few minutes of full on Florida sunshine, and it was glorious! The beach glittered, and everything was so green. We had such a fun afternoon exploring Miami (more on that later!) and hitting up all the spots that were on our wish list! Honestly, we tried to squeeze in so many things since it had been raining all weekend that it was almost comical. I felt like we were on Super Market Sweep trying to beat the rain.
Thankfully the rain started just as we were heading back to the hotel for brunch, which was PERFECT! We sat at Lightkeepers for a little over two hours just enjoying the scene, the food, and the rain. It may have been my favorite moment of the weekend. Plus it didn’t hurt that the food was INCREDIBLE.
After brunch and a nap, because you can’t do one without the other, we got all gussied up and headed down to South Beach for a little fun!
This of course ended up being comical. Here we were thinking we were cool and going to go “out” in Miami, and then we actually get there. We instantly felt SO uncool. We couldn’t stop laughing about how uncool we really are, so we ended up getting back in the car and heading to a quiet Mexican restaurant where we ate tacos and split a margarita. ha! But hey, at least we can say we tried.
On Sunday morning, we packed up and checked out early hoping to hit another few places on our way home while the sun was still out. But, we didn’t leave without stopping at The Pantry for almond milk lattes!
This past weekend was so much fun, and I cannot recommend The Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne enough. We didn’t want to leave and are already planning our next trip!
Check back next week for Part 2 in our Summer Road Trip Series! And follow along on Instagram because next week we are headed to Palm Beach!
