Laurens’ Second Birthday… Keeping It Simple!

But so much to celebrate…

You guys… WHAT! I blinked and have an almost-two-year-old and it’s overwhelming in the very best way possible. I just feel so grateful to have this little buddy by my side for all the muffin making, art painting, new home building phase of life we are in. And when I think about Laurens as a big brother… well, my heart just about can’t take it.

We want to make sure to soak in these last months of it just being the three of us, and to make sure he knows just how very special he is. But also, life is crazy and busy and hectic in all the good ways right now so a full-blown birthday party is just not in the cards!

In all honestly, we’ll probably end up doing a little something similar to last year (all the details and thoughts here!) and keep it super simple. I’m going to make cupcakes and have the grandparents over for candles! But there will most definitely be birthday crowns and banners, with these to hang/sleep in, and lots of F-U-N. I’m also hoping to get out to the beach the weekend before his birthday (it’s his favorite place!), so I love the idea of having him just roll around in the sand for a few hours… he’ll think it’s a party!

Anyways, I’d thought I’d pull together a few party ideas and also little gifts… I always get asked what this age is into, so if you are planning a toddler party or attending one and wondering what to bring, here’s a bunch of inspo for you. (And here’s the wrapping I’m using this year!)

Oh, happy day! xx

And if you missed it, here are my newborn favorites and new mom favorites, and a complete look at what’s inside my diaper bag and all about my baby stroller.

And here are Laurens’ 4-month favorites, 8-month favorites, 12-month favorites, 18-month favorites, outdoor favorites, sippy and smoothie cup favorites, and travel favorites.

Favorites For Second Birthday Gifts/Party

This outdoor play table is so awesome… fill with sand or water, or use it covered for play dough or painting projects. I can see Laurens loading up all of his things in here! And how cool is this?!

With all of our bug making lately I do feel like we need this net! And this for all the outdoor play. And it might be time to start a collection of these… I hear the best things! This is still one of Laurens’ favorite play things, highly recommend.

This custom birthday crown had been on my Pinterest board for YEARS before I finally purchased it! See on Laurens here… TOO CUTE! The other super special thing I purchased last year are these birthday candle holders. (Note: They only take skinny candles, but these fit!) I also scooped up this birthday banner for this year!

Since I’m hoping to get out to the beach, I did scoop up a new little swimsuit and I’ve ordered this little truck shovel and this book.

I think this would be a really fun gift… our favorite water bottle and/or sippy cup and add an initial sticker! So cute!

  1. We have 4 kids ages 19-3, so we’ve celebrated a lot of birthdays around here. When we look back over the years, some of our sweetest memories are the simple, family birthday dinners. Once I learned eating a favorite meal, having a cute cake and opening a few gifts was more than enough, I was much less stressed and we all enjoyed it more. Bravo to you for recognizing you’re in a season of change and not burning yourself out!

  2. You Were the First by Patricia MacLachlan would be such a sweet book for Laurens! Gave this to my little boy when he became a big brother ♥️
