The True Love Experiment By Christina Lauren
Closing the book on July…
Every month feels like it flies by, but WOW I feel like I blinked and this month was just about over. I can’t get over how August is literally DAYS away. August feels big, like almost fall, and I. am. not. ready, ha! But, of course, we cannot wrap up the month without chatting about The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren.
You know I’m a big Christina Lauren fan (read my interview with them here, when we discussed The Unhoneymooners!), but The True Love Experiment was seriously one of my favorites of theirs. It really has such a fun storyline, full of intensity and chemistry, and a few twists I didn’t see coming!

Seriously, I couldn’t put this one down! And I really want to know what you thought of it, truly a perfect July read in my opinion.

We were so excited to see Fizzy return from The Soulmate Equation (a previous ABBC pick), and to read her story that was fun, funny, and full of feeling. Not to mention the undeniable chemistry! And we just loved this quote about romance in the book…
“Romance isn’t gratuitous bodice ripping… It’s about elevating stories of joy above stories of pain. It is about seeing yourself as the main character in a very interesting—or maybe even quiet—life that is entirely yours to control.” — The True Love Experiment
Christina Lauren’s books are full of so many quotable quotes. Here are just a few we love…
“Destiny could also be a choice, she realized. To believe or not, to be vulnerable or not, to go all in or not.” — The Soulmate Equation
“I believe now that the universe delivers random acts of kindness, and it’s on us to decide what to do with them.” — In a Holidaze
“For the first time in my life I get it: home isn’t always a space; it can be a person.” — Twice in a Blue Moon
“Don’t spoil her with toys; spoil her with books.” — Love and Other Words
Discussion Questions
I really loved all the fate/chemistry/romance in this story! Below are a few questions I was thinking about when reading… feel free to answer in the comments below, over on the Ashley Brooke Book Club Instagram, or with your IRL bookish friends.
1. Let’s talk about the first time Fizzy and Connor notice each other across the crowded bar… do you believe in love at first sight? In fate?
2. Both on and off set, Fizzy and Connor find themselves in TV-worthy moments. What was your favorite interaction between the two of them and why?
3. If you had to describe Fizzy and Connor in three words each, what words would you choose and why?
What To Read Next
Next month’s read is a really good one, we promise!
As for books with a similar The True Love Experiment vibe, may we suggest: Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn, Would Like to Meet by Rachel Winters, and One To Watch by Kate Stayman-London.
1. Let’s talk about the first time Fizzy and Connor notice each other across the crowded bar… do you believe in love at first sight? In fate?
Yes!!! My husband and I met and started dating within weeks, became engaged and got married exactly one year from the night we met. We will celebrate our 20th anniversary this December so I feel like while there are always going to be skeptics, we are proof it can happen.
2. Both on and off set, Fizzy and Connor find themselves in TV-worthy moments. What was your favorite interaction between the two of them and why?
The first time they did the confessional interview was my favorite on-screen moment but off-screen was when they took the girls to the concert. That seemed like such a real and fun moment.
3. If you had to describe Fizzy and Connor in three words each, what words would you choose and why?
Fizzy- spontaneous, spunky and insecure
Connor- principled, focused and commanding (his presence seems to command the room due to both height and personality)
