Desk Obsessed Meghan Kelleher via Ashley Brooke Designs

This week’s Desk Obsessed features the super sweet Meghan Kelleher of Departures and Sweet Lemon Magazine! Last year I met Meghan when she reached out to write (the kindest!) an article on ABD! We became fast friends with Meghan over here while working together! So of course, I just HAD to ask her about her desk obsessions. And naturally, she told me all about them… Hope you enjoy!

Name and Occupation: Meghan Kelleher – Marketing & Promotions at Departures Magazine / Contributing Author, Sweet Lemon Magazine / Blogger, The Feminine Edge

Is your desk more OCD organized or artistically organized chaos? My friends all make fun of my OCD tendencies – of course I say it adds character! My closet must be organized by style and color or I’ll break out in hives. My desk, however… Well, I’d like to say that it’s OCD organized, but once you open up those drawers, God only knows what you’ll find! I must say, though, that lacquer boxes and acrylic trays help keep everything looking pretty. Alas, looks can be deceiving. Organized chaos, it is!

What’s your go to pen or pencil? (We know you have a favorite!) I am a pen hoarder! I love pens of all colors and I’m always on the lookout for one that makes my handwriting look as neat (and straight!) as possible. My top two have to be the Pilot Precise V5 and anything Sharpie, really. Who can resist those pretty colors?

What are you listening to at your desk these days? If you prefer to work in silence, is there a song or album that’s gets your juices flowing when you’re stuck in a rut? I was raised listening to classic rock… Billy Joel, Steve Miller Band, Tom Petty, Queen, The Police, Elton John, Elvis Presley. Don’t get me wrong, though. I do listen to the new stuff, but I tend to grow tired of the songs after 10-15 plays. The classics are classic, and will never get old. No music today will ever compare.

Are there snacks or treats within arms reach of your desk? What are they? If sweets are my weakness then pink NERDS are my forbidden fruit. I live up the street from Dylan’s Candy Bar which should be illegal… I eat NERDS, Sour Belts, Airheads and Laffy Taffy like they are, well, candy! No, but really, it’s a sickness. Anything strawberry flavored and I’m sold. I did hear that apples are a great substitute for caffeine and sugar, though, so I am trying to go that route. We will see how long it lasts!

What 3 Things on your desk keep you on track and inspired?

1. Water is the #1 thing that gets me through the day and keeps me going. I don’t understand those people who can go all day without drinking an ounce of water. I probably drink at least 15 glasses per day.  Of course, I’ve never had a single cup of coffee in my life, so I know people don’t understand me, either!

2. I always keep a to-do list on my desk – whether it’s at home or at the office. It’s amazing how accomplished one can feel, simply by checking off a box or crossing something out.

3. I also always have a stash of magazines near my desk. I am super old school in that I love the feeling of flipping through the pages and looking at everything in print. Sometimes there is nothing more inspiring than that.
